WooThemes Warns Customers of Data Breach

WooThemes, a web design template provider, posted a notice on their website that warns of a potential data breach in their checkout process. Nearly 300 cases of fraud have already been reported.

WooThemes does not store credit card information from their customers, so the breach would have happened during checkout. The company immediately contacted their payment processing provider, and they found three modified files that indicate the potential for an attack.

At this time, WooThemes has switched to an entirely off-site payment processor as it tries to track the leak. Customers may still shop with WooThemes, but they will be asked to pay through PayPal Express.

In addition to the notice posted on their website, WooThemes sent an email to their 230,000 newsletter subscribers explaining the situation.

WooThemes is providing regular updates on their website as they find out more information. If you are a WooThemes user, keep an eye on your credit card accounts. To their credit, WooThemes is helping you do just that.
