U.S. Bank Tests ID Scanning App

U.S. Bank Tests ID Scanning App

August 20, 2014         Written By Natalie Rutledge

U.S. Bank is developing a new mobile app to verify the identity of their credit card applicants. The app will allow applicants to take a photo of their drivers license with their phone to instantly upload with the application.

At this point, the new app is only available for applicants of the Minnesota Twins Rewards MasterCard. If it is successful, the app may expand to other cards in the future.

Applicants still have to fill out and verify other information that is not on a person’s driver’s license, but this speeds up the identity verification.

“The technology improves an applicant’s user experience by eliminating the need to type in much of the required information, helps increase data accuracy, and improves security over paper processes,” said Dominic Venturo, chief innovation officer for U.S. Bank Payment Services.

The new app was successfully tested at Minneapolis’ Target Field in June. It will now be part of the application process for people who want to apply for the card.
