The Body Shop Shows Other Uses of Mobile Wallets
Consumers may be surprised to learn that mobile wallets can be used for more than completing a transaction.
The Body Shop launched a mobile wallet pass for Android and iOS devices which features information related to the company’s Forever Against Animal Testing campaign.
Initiated in June, the Forever Against Animal Testing campaign hopes to end cosmetic testing on animals worldwide. The company plans to submit the anti-animal testing petition, which has already collected over three million signatures, to the UN next year.
To add the digital news pass to a mobile wallet, users start by signing the petition online. They will be asked if they want to be kept up-to-date about the petition, and once they agree, the pass will be added to their mobile wallet. From there, the company can send updates on how many people have signed the petition, and users will see news relating to the campaign.
Many are passionate about animal rights, and research has shown that younger consumers, particularly Millennials and Gen Z, are more likely to shop with a company that is eco-friendly and socially responsible.
The Body Shop brand, which has struggled lately as more companies join the personal care industry, hopes that having a stronger mobile presence will help revive declining sales.
This move could also help push forward the adoption of mobile wallets if shoppers come to realize they can do more with the tool than simply pay for transactions with their phones. Mobile wallets, such as Apple Pay and Android Pay, can store loyalty cards, gift cards, coupons tickets and other content.
The digital news pass is currently available in the United States, Canada and the U.K., and the company plans to expand to other English-speaking countries.
