Southwest Unveils New 60K Signup Bonus for Rapid Rewards Cardholders

November 27, 2018, Written By Lynn Oldshue

Southwest Airlines has launched a new signup bonus for Rapid Rewards credit cards. Now through January 9, 2019, new cardholders will qualify for up to 60,000 bonus miles on their Rapid Rewards Premier, Plus or Priority credit card.

The bonus is made up of two offers. Cardholders can earn 40,000 points after spending $1,000 in the first three months. Then, they can earn an additional 20,000 points after spending $12,000 on the card in the first year. The points do not expire as long as the account remains open.

These bonus points can be used toward a Companion Pass, which allows an extra person to fly with the cardholder free of charge. To qualify for a Companion Pass, the cardholder must earn over 110,000 points or fly over 100 one-way flights per year with Southwest Airlines.

All three Rapid Rewards cards offer two points per $1 spent with Southwest and their travel partners, and one point per $1 on all other purchases. The Plus card earns 3,000 anniversary points each year, while the Premier earns 6,000 points and the Priority earns 7,500 points.

The annual fees range from $69 to $149 a year. The Plus card charges a 3% foreign transaction fee, but the Priority and Premier cards do not have a foreign transaction fee.
