Shoppers Can Now Buy Swarovski Home Decor in Virtual Reality

Mastercard and Swarovski have teamed up to provide a virtual reality shopping experience for Swarovski home décor. Starting in October, shoppers can browse through “functional and decorative crystal home accessories” and make purchases in VR with Masterpass.

The program is set up as a smartphone app. Users can launch the app on their phones and then immerse themselves in the experience using a VR headset. The app displays décor in a virtual house, and users can walk into different rooms to view the products. They can select products within a collection by moving their head in a certain direction.

If a consumer wants to purchase an item from virtual reality, he can add the piece to a digital cart and check out using Masterpass. The order will be processed through one of the payment methods attached to the shopper’s Masterpass account, such as a credit card or debit card. Once the user takes off the VR headset, the phone will automatically log out of Masterpass to prevent unauthorized purchases.

Visa unveiled a similar program in June at the Money 20/20 conference. Payscout VR Commerce is a virtual reality shopping experience that allows consumers to buy a wide range of products and place orders with Visa Checkout. The platform is set up, but there are no stores currently using it. Interested users can follow the news and updates area of the Payscout website for up-to-date information.
