Sears and Citi Enhance Rewards for Their Co-Branded Credit Card
(Note: this offer has now expired)
Citi and Sears have extended their 15-year co-branded credit card agreement, and are now offering an enhanced rewards program for cardholders. Rewards that were once only available during promotional periods are now longstanding perks of the Shop Your Way program.
With the new rewards system, users can earn:
- 5% back on gas station purchases*
- 3% back on grocery and dining purchases*
- 2% back on Sears and Kmart purchases
- 1% back on all other purchases
- *The extra rewards on fuel and food purchases is limited to the first $10,000 combined between both categories. After that, users will earn 1% back on these transactions.
According to the Shop Your Way Card terms, the “5-3-2-1” program will last for 12 months after a customer opens a card account. It is not entirely clear what the program will be after that period.
Here’s a look at how the points work. At 1%, each $1 spent on the card earns 10 base points. It takes 1,000 points to equal $1 in credit. Those credits can be redeemed for online purchases or such things as Uber rides, Avis car rentals and Gas Buddy fill-ups. Points take approximately seven days to show in a user’s account after a purchase. The points expire 12 months after they are earned.
