Samsung Pay Gains Support of 14 New Banks
Just weeks after gaining support from Verizon, Samsung Pay is expanding to cover 14 new banks in the United States. These include Sun Trust, Chase, Key Bank, People’s United Bank and Navy Federal Credit Union.
In addition to the new banks, the mobile wallet has announced gift card support will be available in the near future. This feature will be courtesy of a new partnership with Blackhawk Network, which runs the gift card programs for Amazon, Macy’s, and other online and offline retailers.
Samsung Pay has only been on the market for a month, and is getting a great deal of positive feedback.
“After one month, the numbers say it all: Consumers who have used Samsung Pay are using it repeatedly because it works almost anywhere you can swipe or tap a card,” said Thomas Ko, Global Co-General Manager of Samsung Pay.
Samsung Pay already supports all four major credit card providers: Visa, American Express, Discover, and MasterCard. Thanks to the partnership with Verizon, the mobile wallet is also available on most every Android smartphone from nearly every phone carrier on the market.
The new banks should be added into the Samsung Pay platform over the next few months, and the gift card support should arrive a short time later. There are no exact dates for either launch at this time.
