Plastiq App Lets You Pay Any Bill with a Credit Card
A new iPhone app known as Plastiq allows you to pay any bill with a debit or credit card, even if card payments are not accepted with the billing company. Simply snap a photo of the bill with your smartphone camera and make an instant or scheduled payment for the bill with your card.
For billing companies that do not usually accept debit or credit card payments, Plastiq will issue a check on your behalf in the amount you authorize. If you choose to make an instant payment with your card, you do not have to sign up for an account. Plastiq will process all the information for its standard 2.5% fee for credit cards or 1% fee for debit cards.
One of the most innovative features of Plastiq is the payment scheduler, which allows you to “save a bill for later” and receive push notifications when it is almost due. You can choose to schedule a payment for a later date or make the payment when you receive the push notification. The notifications arrive a few days before the bill is due to allow time for payment processing which usually takes 48 to 72 hours.
Plastiq accepts payments from Visa, MasterCard, and American Express, but does not accept Discover cards. The app is only available through the Apple App Store, and there is no information about an Android version coming out any time soon. The app itself is free to download.
