PayPal Expands Smart Buttons Checkout Globally

PayPal is expanding its “smart” checkout service to a global level. PayPal Checkout with Smart Payment Buttons was launched in the United States earlier this year, but will now make its way to other markets.

The Smart Payment Buttons are designed to give consumers more options for payments, thereby increasing sales conversions for businesses. A recent study showed PayPal users had an 88.7% conversion rate, compared to 48.7% for direct debit and credit card payments. Hence, PayPal users are more likely to complete their purchase once they have started the online checkout process.

PayPal Checkout with Smart Payment Buttons offers unique location-based payment options for consumers. For instance, customers in Belgium can pay through Bancontact, while users in Italy can pay through MyBank. Businesses with international customers can now offer their shoppers more ways to pay for purchases.

The global launch also includes PayPal Marketing Solutions, which gives sellers insight into their customers’ behaviors so they can drive more sales. Merchants can see what devices their shoppers are using to interact with their website, how many shoppers convert to buyers, and how they can promote various payment options within their site.

Merchants may apply online to incorporate PayPal Checkout with their websites.
