PayPal and American Express announced plans earlier this year to allow customers to receive free two-day shipping at select online retailers. MasterCard has now decided to do the same.

These shipping programs are in response to overwhelming success of Amazon Prime, a program that offers free two-day shipping on most Amazon products. Other stores are having to find ways to provide the same service to maintain a hold on their customers.

MasterCard’s offer is available at five of the biggest retail names on the market: Best Buy, QVC, Macy’s, Kohl’s and Walmart. To take advantage of the free shipping, shoppers must join They can then go to their select online retailer through the website and pay for their items as usual. When the items are paid for with a MasterCard credit card, MasterCard reimburses the money for the shipping after the transaction.

This offer is only available to a select group of MasterCard cardholders, but other people can take advantage of it for a price. There is an annual subscription fee of $69.99.

The American Express program is called ShopRunner. It offers two-day shipping at over 80 stores, as well as free shipping on returns. The programs costs $79 annually but certain cardmembers receive the service free. Retailers include Radio Shack, Petsmart, American Eagles Outfitters, Babies R Us, Calvin Klein and Timberland.

PayPal’s program was announced in October and is for a limited time. It includes free two-day shipping from nine online retailers including Levi Strauss, Aeropostale, The Sports Authority, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Dockers.

In the months to come, it is likely we will see more of these free shipping offers being made available through other payment centers.
