MasterCard Expands Partnership with Major League Baseball

MasterCard and Major League Baseball are expanding their longstanding partnership to give MasterCard the presenting sponsorship role in the baseball’s marquee event every year. In addition to extra sponsorship opportunities, MasterCard will now have a chance to deliver more “advanced payment technologies” to fans of the sport.
Recently, MasterCard implemented its MasterPass payment processing platform into the MLB.com Shop and select ticketing providers’ websites. Baseball fans with a MasterPass account can use their account information to make payments securely online without having to provide credit card details directly to the websites. MasterCard has also enabled contactless payments at Major League Baseball’s All-Star Week events, in addition to special events during the post season.

MasterCard will continue to work with MLB under the new agreement to provide extra bonuses to rewards cardholders. For instance, before All-Star Week, users will be able to get a special discount on All-Star FanFest tickets, as well as exclusive access to MLB.com shop discounts and the All-Star Week Strip presale.
MasterCard has had a partnership with Major League Baseball for 20 years, and also holds separate relationships with several individual teams: the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, and Boston Red Sox. Those partnerships were also extended as part of the new agreement.
