GE Smart Dryers Can Now Automatically Re-Order Dryer Sheets

March 22, 2017, Written By Lynn Oldshue

The Internet of Things continues to amaze.

Your laundry room now has the potential to re-stock itself so you may never run out of cleaning products. General Electric is making wi-fi-connected smart dryers that use Amazon Dash to automatically order laundry supplies online.

Currently, the feature only works for dryer sheets. Over time, though, GE may expand the technology to replenish detergents, fabric softeners and bleach.

Users can activate Amazon Dash through the GE Laundry app on their Android or Apple devices. Users can then set up the Dash Replenishment services which links to a person’s Amazon account. The app asks a series of questions to determine when a person may run low on dryer sheets, such as how many sheets are used per load on average or how low the inventory should go before reordering. Then when the time comes, the dryer will send an order request through Amazon and charge it to the debit or credit card on file.

Dash Replenishment is available on GE washing machines and dishwashers as well, but it will not place orders on its own. Users can order dishwashing pods, laundry detergent and other supplies from the face of their Wi-Fi connected appliances, but they have to do so manually.
