American Express credit cardholders in India can now upgrade their iPhones by simply redeeming their rewards points at Apple Stores. This is part of the new Pay with Points program that provides real-time opportunities to cash in rewards with more than 750 retailers and restaurants worldwide.

The Apple Store is just one of the big name brands in the Pay with Points program. Other noteworthy establishments for cardholders in India include Bose, Armani Jeans, Marks & Spencer and Reliance Digital. Users can instantly redeem points from their American Express cards at any retailer or restaurant in the Pay with Points network. This extra convenience may entice users to rack up more rewards by using their card more often.

Pay with Points is the result of a partnership with Pine Labs, a payment provider. Pine Labs is charged with creating POS systems merchants can use to work with the AmEx rewards network in real time. The company has created unique technology that streamlines the transition and makes it easy for retailers to join in this new opportunity.

It is not known how long the transition to Pay with Points will take, but American Express cardholders in India should have something new to look forward to in the coming months.
