Ford and Exxon Partner to Create Gas Payment App
Imagine a world where you do not have to swipe your card or punch germ-loaded buttons to pay for your fuel at the pump. That reality may be here soon, as Ford has integrated ExxonMobil’s Speedpass+ app so drivers can pay for gas from the comfort of their vehicles.
The Speedpass+ app is accessible from Ford’s SYNC 3 touchscreen or by voice commands. Drivers can use the app to both authorize payments and earn Plenti loyalty points when they visit Mobil and Exxon fueling stations.
“ExxonMobil’s use of mobile technology that makes life more convenient for their customers can be easily integrated into Ford vehicles,” said Dave Hatton, Ford global manager, mobile applications and emergency services. “With SYNC AppLink, the Speedpass+ experience becomes a more seamless part of our customers’ journey.”
The vehicle uses its GPS to recognize when it is at a participating Mobil or Exxon station, which makes it easier for the driver to enter the pump number and pay for gas from their touchscreen.
To pay for gas using voice commands:
- Say “Express pay” or “Pay for fuel.”
- Say which pump number should be authorized by saying the number.
- Confirm authorization and begin fueling.
The app can also be used to search for and navigate to one of the 9,400 participating Mobil and Exxon stations. The SYNC 3 touch screen will display nearby stations and directions whenever the fuel gauge drops below a specified level.
