The Citi ThankYou Premier Card is a favorite in the rewards category, and it will soon be making some slight alterations in the way it rewards its cardholders. Beginning April 19, there will be a shift in the rewards structure for travel and dining purchases, which may cause some consumers to change their spending strategies.

The current rewards setup allows for three ThankYou points per $1 spent on dining and entertainment, two points per $1 spent on travel, and one point per $1 spent on everything else. Under the new system, cardholders will receive three points for travel purchases instead of two, and two points for dining and entertainment instead of three.

Citi is also expanding the travel sector to include the following purchases: hotel rooms, gas, toll fees, airfare, car rental agreements, travel agency expenses, cruises, taxis, railways and parking fees.

The other big change for the Citi ThankYou Premier Card is a decrease in the annual fee, which will now be $95 instead of $125. The annual fee is waived for the first 12 months of credit card use, just as it was before.

Most of the other features on the card will remain the same.
