(Note: Citi has now eliminated these cardholder benefits)

There are several reasons why you might choose one credit card over another. For example, one card might offer better rewards while another might feature a valuable promotional financing offer. Applicants also make their decisions based on a card’s fees and interest rates. But in addition to all of these factors, it’s important to consider many of the perks and benefits a card issuer can offer its customers. Citi credit cards feature numerous cardholder benefits that many of their credit card users may not even be aware of. And while their premium reward credit cards will offer the most generous travel insurance and purchase protection benefits, all of their cards offer strong benefits that cardholders could be using.

Basic Citi Cardholder Benefits

All Citi credit cards come with some useful purchase protection policies. For example, no-fee cards like the Citi Simplicity offer Citi’s Price Rewind service. This program will automatically search for a lower price on your eligible, registered purchases, and offer a refund of the difference if it finds a lower price within 60 days of purchase. This coverage will refund up to $500 per item with an annual maximum benefit of $2,500. Citi also offers extended warranty policies on all of its cards that adds up to two extra years to the manufacturer’s warranty for many purchases. This allows you to be covered even when you decline to purchase a costly extended warranty policy from the retailer.

When traveling, Citi cards offers other benefits that can come in handy. Citi cards come with worldwide rental car insurance, as opposed to the coverage offered by other card issuers that can exclude many popular destinations such as Italy, Ireland, Australia and Jamaica. Cardholders also have access to a travel and emergency assistance hotline. This service is available 24/7 for emergency travel arrangements, travel issues, medical and legal referrals and other referrals. Just note that you will have to pay the provider for any services you receive.

It also offers Citi® Identity Theft Solutions to help you with identifying compromised accounts, filing police reports and taking steps to get your credit score back to where it was. Finally, Citi offers automatic account alerts, a customizable payment due date, and compatibility with the Apple Pay mobile payment system.

Additional Benefits Offered by Select Citi Cards

In addition to the basic cardholder benefits found on all of its cards, Citi’s offers an enhanced package of benefits on many of its reward cards, such as the Citi Double Cash. For example, the Double Cash cardholders receive trip cancellation and interruption protection that can reimburse for your expenses in some cases. For example, the trip cancellation insurance covers you if you have to cancel a trip due to illness, injury or death of yourself, an immediate family member or a traveling companion.

When shopping, many Citi cards offer damage and theft protection that may cover you for repairs or a refund if purchases made with your Citi card are damaged or stolen within 120 days of purchase (90 days for New York residents).

The Citi® Private Pass® Citi program allows customers to enjoy special access to tickets including presale tickets and VIP packages to concerts, sporting events, dining experiences, plus complimentary movie screenings and more.

Premium Benefits Offered by Select Citi Cards

Citi’s premium reward cards offer outstanding benefits. For example, the ThankYou Premier card offers lost baggage protection that can reimburse you if your checked or carry–on luggage is lost, stolen, or damaged by the common carrier while on a trip. If that happens, Citi may refund the purchase price of the missing items or the cost to repair or replace the damaged items, whichever is less.

In addition, the top-of-the-line Citi Prestige card offers trip delay insurance that can cover meals and lodging expenses if your trip is delayed due to weather, mechanical problems, or other carrier caused delays. It also includes baggage delay protection that can reimburse you for the cost of necessary personal and business items until their baggage arrives. It even offers medical evacuation insurance that can pay to have you transported home when traveling and the right emergency care isn’t available locally. Furthermore, this card offers Missed Event Ticket Protection that covers you if you are unable to use expensive tickets such as those for a sporting event, concert, or lecture.

How to Take Advantage of These Benefits

First, it’s important to learn about which cards offer a particular benefit, so you can choose a card with features that are most important to you. Next, you should read your card’s guide to benefits to find out the terms and conditions of each one. As with all credit card benefits, there will always be exclusions and limitations that apply. But by choosing the right Citi credit card, and utilizing its valuable perks and benefits, you can realize more value from your credit cards than you might have thought possible.
