Chase and United Airlines Launch No Annual Fee Travel Rewards Card

September 6, 2017, Written By Lynn Oldshue

Today, Chase and United Airlines launched the United TravelBank Card, a new travel rewards card with no annual fee. Users can earn 2% cash back on United purchases and 1.5% on everything else.

The cash back program for this card is a little different than standard cashback credit cards. The rewards are converted into “TravelBank cash,” which can be used for United Airlines purchases. It’s a hybrid of a cashback credit card and a frequent flyer card. Cardholders can see dollar values for their rewards, rather than points.

In addition to the TravelBank cash, cardholders will get trip cancellation insurance, rental car insurance, and 25% cash back on in-flight food and drink purchases. There is no foreign transaction fee, and users have access to Chase’s 30+ exclusive events per year.

The current sign-on bonus offers $150 TravelBack cash after spending $1,000 on the card within the first three months. All cash will be transferred to United at the end of the billing cycle, per the terms of the card. The amount of rewards cash earned is displayed on the billing statement and in each cardholder’s online account.

Certain transactions are not eligible for rewards, including balance transfers, cash advances, lottery and gambling purchases, and fees paid on the account.
