CFPB Taps Steven Antonakes as Deputy Director

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau officially named Steven Antonakes as the top deputy to Director Richard Cordray.

Antonakes has been with the CFPB since November 2010. He started with the Bureau as an assistant director for large bank supervision, and was promoted to associate director in June 2012. He has been the acting deputy director for the past seven months.

In his role, Antonakes will continue to oversee bank supervision, enforcement, and fair lending.

Director Cordray said in a statement, “He has adeptly led, and will continue to lead, our supervision, enforcement, and fair lending teams. Steve’s experience, his knowledge, and his judgment are vital in helping us achieve our mission of fostering a thriving, sustainable marketplace for both consumers and responsible businesses.”
