Capital One Looking to Hire Bitcoin Expert

June 10, 2014         Written By Natalie Rutledge

Credit card giant Capital One is currently seeking a Bitcoin savvy expert to give them insight into the influence the cryptocurrency may have on the financial world. While Bitcoin may not yet be considered a direct competitor for Capital One and its credit card consumers at this time, it has certainly made some significant inroads as a digital currency.

The data scientist job advertisement posted on Capital One’s website indicates that the new employee will be in charge of “investigating the impact of new technologies like Google Glass, Leap Motion, smart watches, Bitcoin, and iBeacons on the future of mobile banking and the financial world of tomorrow.” The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in quantitative discipline, as well as a year or more of experience in multiple programming platforms.

What is Capital One’s goal in all of this? Perhaps it is trying to stay ahead of the upcoming competition. Possibly trying to figure out how cryptocurrencies effectively transfer money in seconds at an incredibly low price. Or simply aiming to explore a new audience.

Whatever the case may be, it is clear that Capital One is making Bitcoin research a strong priority.
