Using a credit card to make a purchase has a significant number of advantages compared to other forms of payment: you don’t have to carry cash; you have an accounting of where you made your transactions; you can earn money through valuable rewards for simply using the card to pay for items; and various incremental protections and coverages.

One of the more attractive benefits are the sign up bonuses that come with a number of credit cards. These early spend bonuses require you to make a certain amount of purchases during the first three months of being a cardholder. But these sign up bonuses can be extremely valuable.

Here are some of the best credit card sign up bonuses for 2018:

Capital One Venture Rewards

The Capital One Venture Rewards card offers 50,000 bonus miles, worth $500 in travel statement credits, after new customers use their card to spent $3,000 within three months of account opening. This card always offers two miles per dollar spent on all purchases, with no limits. When it comes time to redeem your miles, you can book travel with your card the way you normally would, and then redeem your miles for one cent each as statement credits toward your charges. The Venture Rewards card is also part of the Visa Signature program, which features cardholder benefits such as travel upgrades and savings, a complimentary concierge service, extended warranty coverage and emergency card replacement. There is a $59 annual fee for this card that is waived the first year, and like all Capital One cards, there are never any foreign transaction fees imposed on charges made outside of the United States.

Citi Premier℠ Card

The Citi Premier℠ Card has some attractive rewards. Cardholders earn 60,000 bonus points once they spend $4,000 during the first three months of having the account. Ongoing rewards include three points for every dollar spent on travel and gas, two points for each dollar spent on dining out and entertainment, and one point for all other transactions. You can transfer the points to use at participating airline and hotel loyalty programs. The card has an APR between 18.24%-26.24% (Variable) depending on your credit worthiness. There is a $95 annual fee.

The Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® is a terrific credit card for those who are planning to do a lot of traveling. The card offers 70,000 bonus miles if you make $5,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of card ownership. You’ll also get double the miles on all purchases that you make. It offers a 0% APR for 12 months on balance transfers if they are made within 45 days of opening your account, with a balance transfer fee of either $5 or 3% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater. There is an $89 annual fee which is waived the first year. The card has no foreign transaction fee. The card may be difficult to obtain since it is designed for people with excellent credit scores.

Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards

New cardholders receive a $150 cash bonus when they spend $500 on purchases within the first three months of opening the account. Customers get 15 months of interest-free financing on both new purchases and balance transfers, with a 3% balance transfer fee. After the introductory financing period ends, the standard interest rate of 15.49% - 25.49% (Variable) applies. This card only requires the applicant to have a good credit score.

ABOC Platinum Rewards

One point is earned for every dollar spent, and can be redeemed for travel benefits, gift cards, merchandise, and even cash. There is an introductory APR of 0% for 12 months on purchases and for 18 months on balance transfers. The ongoing interest rate is 14.40% - 24.40% (variable) based on your credit worthiness. And late payments don’t raise your APR. There is no annual fee on this card.

Capital One Spark Cash for Business
