American Express Tests Product Placement in New Final Fantasy Game
American Express is using an interesting new marketing strategy to promote its credit cards. According to recent news reports, the latest installment of the Final Fantasy video game series (Final Fantasy XV) will feature a product placement from AmEx.
The creators of the game have released a screenshot of the game that shows the American Express logo on a shop window. Final Fantasy has always been noted for staying ahead of the curve when it comes to realistic depictions of characters and scenery, but XV in particular has been described as “fantasy based in reality“. The use of real-world brands like AmEx inside the game further emphasizes just how “real” this game will be.
As part of the campaign, American Express users in Japan will be able to get a free copy of Final Fantasy XV if they sign up for a Gold Card or American Express® Business Gold Card before August 31st. The first 100 customers to sign up for the cards will get a Play Arts Noctis figure. Cardholders that spend at least 150,000 yen ($1,465 USD) within the first three months of owning the card will receive a 10,000 yen ($98 USD) gift card featuring one of the characters from the game.
Final Fantasy XV is scheduled to be released on September 30th for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
