American Express Cardholders Can Earn Double Rewards

Today, American Express announced a new campaign to encourage cardholders to buy from small businesses. The Shop Small for 2X Rewards program allows eligible cardholders to earn double rewards points and cash back opportunities for shopping with small merchant stores and websites.

The campaign begins today and runs through the end of the year. There is a list of eligible cards on the American Express website. Cardholders must enroll in the Shop Small program in order to earn double rewards, but that is free to do online.

The only qualifying purchases are those made with merchants in the Shop Small network. You can use the Shop Small Map to view merchants in your area. These may include restaurants, hardware stores, floral shops, car washes, and much more.

There is a rewards cap for the program (up to $100,000 in purchases), and the types of rewards you earn will depend on the type of card you have. For instance, purchases with the Delta SkyMiles Cards earn one additional mile per $1 spent. The Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Preferred cards generate an extra 1% cash back per $1 spent. These rewards cannot be combined with other loyalty promotions American Express is running, like earning extra cash back for a specific type of transaction.

American Express business cardholders can also take advantage of Shop Small for 2X Rewards. The caps for business cards are $250,000 in purchases. You can only enroll one card in the Shop Small program at a time.
