American Express Blue Cash Preferred Card Now Offers 6% Cash Back on Streaming Services
American Express unveiled a series of new benefits for its Blue Cash Preferred Card. Starting May 9, new and existing cardholders will be able to receive 6% cash back on select streaming subscriptions such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Audible and Pandora. In addition they will receive 3% cash back on transit purchases such as tolls, parking fares, and rideshares, including Lyft and Uber.
These offers come in addition to existing Blue Cash Preferred benefits, which include: 6% cash back at supermarkets, 3% cash back at gas stations, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. New cardholders approved on or after May 9 will receive a $250 bonus after spending $1,000 on their card in the first three months.
American Express says the card updates were inspired by a research study conducted on their behalf. Wakefield Research surveyed 1,000 adults between the ages of 31 and 38. They found that 91% of respondents are spending more on daily purchases than they did five years ago, with significant increases in grocery purchases (67%), streaming subscriptions (35%) and commuting (34%).
The card will have a new design, along with contactless payment technology. It still carries a $95 annual fee, along with 0% APR for the first 12 months.
