American Airlines Increases Credit Card Sign-Up Bonus for a Limited Time

American Airlines has increased the sign-up bonus for the Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite MasterCard for a limited time. New users can now earn up to 50,000 AAdvantage bonus miles: 40,000 after spending $2,000 on the card in the first three months, and another 10,000 after making a total of $6,000 in purchases in first 12 months of account opening.

American Airlines is also offering a $100 flight discount after the first year if the customer has spent more than $20,000 on the card and renews the card.

They company has also changed the structure of their rewards program. Cardholders can earn two miles for every $1 spent at restaurants or gas stations. This is in addition to the existing double miles offer, which provides two miles for every $1 spent on American Airlines purchases. All other purchases qualify for one mile per $1.

This card comes with a $99 annual fee, but that is waived for the first year. There is no mileage cap, but miles must be redeemed within 18 months. Other benefits include: no foreign transaction fees, 25% off select in-flight purchases, preferred boarding and one free checked bag on domestic flights.
