Obtaining an interest free line of credit is one of the most valuable offers available from a credit card issuer, especially for those who are trying to pay off their debt. In fact, there are many credit cards that offer 0% APR promotional financing on new purchases, balance transfers, or both.
Although federal law now requires these limited time offers last for at least six months, there are some that offer significantly more generous terms. Here are seven of the current offers that feature the longest interest free financing available:
1. Citi Diamond Preferred
The Discover card has long been known for having exemplary customer service, but its promotional financing offers are also very competitive. This offer for the Discover it card features 18 months of interest free financing on balance transfers, with a 3% balance transfer fee. In addition, cardholders receive six months of 0% APR on new purchases as well as cash back rewards. Customers receive 5% cash back on up to $1,500 spent each quarters at select categories of merchants, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. For instance, in the fourth quarter of 2014, bonus categories include online shopping and department stores. There is no annual fee for this card.
4. Chase Slate
The Chase Slate card offers 15 months of interest free financing on both new purchases and balance transfers, but it is the only such offer currently available with no balance transfer fee. You simply have to make that transfer during the first 60 days of being a cardholder. While this card’s promotional financing period is slightly shorter than some of its competitors, cardholders who need to perform a 0% APR balance transfer might find avoiding the customary 3% balance transfer fee to be a worthwhile tradeoff. There is no annual fee for this card.
5. Chase Freedom
Chase Freedom features 15 months of interest free financing on both new purchases and balance transfers, with a 3% balance transfer. But in addition, new cardholders receive a $200 cash back sign-up bonus when they use their card to make $500 in purchases within three months of account opening. Like the Discover it card, Freedom offers 5% cash back on up to $1,500 spent each quarters at select stores and merchant categories, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. For example, in December of 2014, the eligible bonus merchants include Amazon.com, Zappos.com, and select department stores. There is no annual fee for this card.
The Capital One Platinum Prestige card is currently offering 15 months of 0% APR financing on both new purchases and balance transfers, with a 3% balance transfer fee. While this is also a slightly shorter promotional financing period than some of its competitors, it’s notable that it is offered to applicants with just “good”, rather than “excellent” credit. Another great feature is that it does not charge any foreign transaction fees on purchases outside the United States. In contrast, most credit cards still impose a 3% fee whenever a foreign transaction is processed. There is no annual fee for this card.
This offer for the popular Discover it card features 14 months of interest free financing on both new purchases and balance transfers, with a 3% balance transfer fee. The Discover it card features 100% U.S. based customer service, and cardholders receive their first late fee waived automatically. Yet just like the above offer, it features cash back rewards for spending and no annual fee.
