In an effort to stay up with the competition, Sun Country Airlines is boosting its Ufly frequent flier program with a Visa card. The card is expected to help regular travelers save money on their flights by earning rewards.

The Minnesota-based airline is expected to launch the card some time this summer before the start of vacation season. The card will let Sun Country fliers earn points through regular purchases on their cards.

There are currently 500,000 members in the Ufly program, which is more than three times as many as the airline had this time last year. Nevertheless, most of the members in the program said that it would be made much better with a credit card option. Sun County listened to that input in the hopes of securing new customers.

At the moment, there is no information about which bank Sun Country Airlines is working with for the card. The company had a bankruptcy reorganization in 2008 and 2009, and since then it has been profitable for five consecutive years. A change of ownership and a series of new plans helped put this airline back on the map. They hope the new Visa card helps continue that trend.
