PayPal is now selling its card reader product, PayPal Here, at the 1,800 AT&T stores throughout the United States.
The product enables merchants and sole proprietors to take a debit or credit card payment through a dongle that attaches to a tablet or smartphone.
PayPal Here is available at AT&T stores for $15, but buyers receive a $15 credit for its use. The partnership with AT&T is PayPal Here's first retail arrangement in the United States.
PayPal Here charges the merchant a flat rate of 2.7 percent per transaction. Square, PayPal Here's main competitor, charges 2.75 percent per transaction. Square can be purchased at many stores including AT&T, Best Buy, Apple, Staples and Target for $10, with a corresponding $10 credit for its use.
