PayPal is finally bringing its “Return Shipping on Us” program to America after a year of success on the European market. The launch comes just in time for the online holiday shopping season.

The free return shipping program is designed to encourage online shoppers to process their purchases through PayPal instead of other credit card processors. Return Shipping on Us is now live in 37 markets around the world, offering increased buyer protection and better peace of mind for those who choose to make their purchases online.

The program works like a rebate. After returning an item to a merchant, a customer may go to and file a claim for return shipping. The claim must be filed within two weeks of shipping, and must include a copy of the sales receipt. There are no exclusions to the type of items that can be returned, but there is a limit of $30 per refund. Each customer may only process four refunds for shipping.

PayPal experienced a spike in sales starting as early as September 30th last year, so the holiday season may be upon us. With an estimated $105 billion in online holiday sales this year, PayPal picked the perfect time to bring its free return shipping to the United States.
