Outback Steakhouse to Launch Pay-at-the-Table Mobile App

Outback Steakhouse is taking the “smart” approach to customer payments with its new smartphone app that lets diners pay for their meals from their phones. Using the app, customers can cover their tab without waiting for a server to come back for their credit card, making it easy for people to get in and out when they desire.

Applebee’s, Chili’s and several other chain restaurants in the United States already have tablets at their tables, allowing diners to play games, view the menu, and of course, pay for their meals. Outback is taking that idea to the next level by giving customers the opportunity to pay through their own devices.

This new concept has several benefits: it allows people to view and pay their bills quickly, it helps people feel more secure about paying because they do not have to give their card to someone else, and it eliminates the paper copies of bills that servers may lose at the end of the night.

The new Outback app will also tell customers if there is a wait at the restaurant, show them how long the wait is, and allow them to reserve a spot on the wait list before they get to the restaurant.

There is no release date yet for the upgraded app.
