LOS ANGELES - MAY 16: Kohl's Exterior at the American Idol's "

Last week, Kohl’s became the first retailer to have its loyalty rewards card linked to Apple Pay. The department store made this announcement via Twitter on last week. This gives consumers a chance to earn rewards points on their card while using their mobile wallets on their Apple devices.

Walgreens is also taking advantage of this opportunity, allowing its Balance Rewards members to rack up loyalty points through Apple Pay.

These two retailers are only the start of what could be a large wave of stores and restaurants adding their loyalty cards to the Apple Pay network. Analysts have thought the mobile wallet would one day have this option, and that time appears to be here.

Now users will be able to spend money on their rewards cards through Apple Pay without worrying about losing out on the rewards themselves. The points are still added to their rewards account, even if the rewards card is not swiped at the register.

Other retailers expected to link their loyalty cards to Apple Pay include JCPenney and BJ’s Wholesale Club. The value of the rewards for these stores varies from one retailer to the next.
