Once again, the most popular gift this past holiday season was a gift card. If you received one, this weekend may be the time to use it.
The second annual Gift Card Weekend http://www.giftcardweekend.com/ will take place from January 4 through 6. A number of national retailers are giving cardholders some extra benefits for using their gift cards during this period.
For example, AMC Theatres is selling a regular-size candy for just $1 when you buy any combo this weekend.
Participating retailers include Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, Bath & Body Works, AMC Theatres, Regal Entertainment Group, Applebee's, Olive Garden, Chili's, California Pizza Kitchen, LongHorn Steakhouse, Subway, Red Robin and Marriott.
"We know that consumers are always looking to maximize the value of both the gifts they give and receive," said Brett Glass, Founder of Gift Card Weekend. "We created Gift Card Weekend so the purchaser and the recipient of gift cards can get more for their dollar."
The National Retail Federation estimated that over 80 percent of consumers purchased at least one gift card in 2012.
