One of the better credit card rewards programs just became even more attractive.

Yesterday, Discover announced that consumers who apply and are approved for eligible cards during June and July will have their cash rewards doubled at the end of the first year of card membership.

The promotion applies to the Discover it card, the Discover it card with an 18-month balance transfer offer, the Discover it Chrome, the Discover it for Students and the Discover it Chrome for Students. The Discover it Miles card already doubles your miles on the one-year anniversary of becoming a card member, so this card is not part of this limited-time offer.

New Discover customers do not have to go through any extra steps to take part in this offer. They simply use their card to make everyday purchases and the cash rewards they have accumulated in the first 12 months are automatically doubled on their one-year anniversary date.

Discover has one of the better rewards programs in the industry. These cards pay 1% cash back on all purchases, and 5% back on rotating categories each quarter. During the third quarter of 2015, cardholders will earn 5% back on purchases made at home improvement centers, department stores and on, up to $1,500 in transactions.

These cards have some other features that are appealing. Each of these cards now comes with chip technology, no annual fee and consumers receive their free FICO score on their monthly statements. In addition, each card has the new Freeze It feature, an on-off switch that allows the cardholder to freeze or unfreeze the card in seconds in case the card is lost.

“This is a great way for new cardmembers to test drive Discover and experience the generous rewards and industry-recognized customer service,” Ryan Scully, Discover’s vice president of marketing, said in a statement. “These new cardmembers will also enjoy more-recent enhancements available to all of our customers.”
