Student Credit Cards

These credit cards are for a high school or college student. These cards help students build their own credit history and most have relatively low credit limits. Most student cards have some reward feature for everyday purchases. Our objective opinion is included on each card.

Our Opinion: Rewards students for staying within their credit limit and paying on time. If you stay within your credit limit and pay on time, you will receive 100 bonus points per billing period and a possible reduction in your interest rates. Rate reductions occur at a rate of .25% after three months in a row of staying within the limit and paying on time. You could receive up to 8 reductions, for a 2% total reduction. Get 2,500 bonus points when you sign up for paperless statements within the first three months of opening the account. Receive 3,500 bonus points when they make their first $250 in purchases within the first three months. Receive 5 points per $1 spent at movie theaters, restaurants, book stores, and video rental stores. Receive $1 spent on all other purchases. Our Opinion: The Current by Discover - Debit Card for Teens is a prepaid debit card developed especially for teens, but with their parents in mind. Current by Discover is the only prepaid card that helps parents monitor their teens' spending. Parents can set up spending limits and restrict shopping categories. This gives teens freedom while helping their parents maintain control. Current by Discover offers free direct deposit for parents and teens, as well as free deposits from any credit card or bank account. Once money is added, teens can use the card to make purchases online, over the phone and in stores. The card can even be used at the ATM for cash withdrawals. This card has a participation fee of $5 per month.
