Banner Health Data Breaches Affect Nearly 4 Million Patients and Customers

Banner Health, a nationwide health system, announced it suffered from data breaches that affected 3.7 million patients and customers. Cyber attackers gained access to computer servers at select Banner Health locations, along with information from the payment card processors at the company’s food and beverage outlets.

According to the official Notice of Cyber Attack from Banner Health, the attacks were initiated on June 17th and June 23rd. The company noticed signs of the attacks on July 7th and July 13th, and immediately began working with investigators and cyber security experts to protect their systems.

“We have returned to accepting all forms of payment at food and beverage facilities. You can use your payment card with confidence. This incident did not affect payment cards used for payment of medical services,” the company said in a statement.

The attacks affected various groups of people in different ways – all of which is detailed on BannerSupports.com. For patients, stolen information may have included contact information, health insurance information, Social Security Numbers, physician names, and dates of service. For food and beverage customers, stolen information may include payment card data, cardholder names, expiration dates and verification codes.

Banner Health is sending letters to anyone who may have been affected by the attacks. The letters should be out by September 9, 2016. Concerned customers, patients, and members may also contact the company’s dedicated call center at 1-855-223-4412 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pacific Time.
